So here is what our target audience thought of our questions. We have altot of 16 - 25 year olds, so a farley young group which we will be aiming our video at but they all have quite a varied taste in genre's, a strong pop and rock group though so they should like our song choice. Most of the target audience like to watch music videos, 6 of the 15 we asked watch 1-3 videos a week, 4 of them watch 4-7 a week, 1 of they watch 8-11 a week and 4 of them watch over 12 music videos a week witch is quite alot of TV. The next question was directed more at the making of the video side of things "Do you think a narrative is important in a music video and why?". Heres what they thought, most of them think Varied shots are important because it "makes the video more interesting", non of them were to keen on animated sequences, exotic locations wasnt top of the list really either with 3 of the 15 thinking it was an important factor, nudity wasnt an esencial feature either with just 3 of the boys giving it a tick, narrative has quite alot of importance to our target audience with 9 of them ticking it and some of them said "it helps to comlete the video and keeps people watching", Choreography was another one with lots of hits but we think it will be diffeicult to pull of witch this song and limited people who could perform, CGI was much of a big thing here so are target audience dont want any big explotions and finally violence with one person givingit a mark isnt an important feature in a music video either. so we have alot of helpfull infomation here that will help us decide of some things so that we can please our audience.

Research- Newton Faulkner

I Need Something is one of Newton Faulkner's most popular songs off his album Dream Catch Me that was realised in 2007. there have been two different music videos released for this song , this is one of them.

I Need Something is one of Newton Faulkner's most popular songs off his album Dream Catch Me that was realised in 2007. there have been two different music videos released for this song , this is one of them.

This video presents Newton Faulkner in a blacked out room performing to the camera. This video is all performance there isn't a narrative aspects. But the use of close ups and focus pulls is very well done especially on the shot of the guitar. As the video plays through lots of props start appearing in the back ground mainly lights but normal house hold standing lamps this cloud suggest that things are looking up, there are some lyrics that get repeated " I don't mind any more" which also suggests that.

The wide range shots used in this video help stretch the same seen out through the video but keep it from being boring, the grate detail that is shown on the guitar in the close ups suggests that the guitar part of the sound is just as important as the vocals. the use of focus pull on some of the guitar shots really help the black and white of the video effective.

In this video there is a very well done performance aspect, there is a range of close ups and varied wide shots that we could use in our video in some of the performance shots are close up aperture shots on strigs which enhances that action in the shot. this video is also shot in black and white this could be considered as an effect in our video because it can add charictor to the video and is also quite an unusual thing for a music video and being different is good.

Research- Foo Fighters

This is the song Learn to Fly by Foo Fighters of there album There is nothing left to lose that was releasedin 1999. Learn to fly is one of the Foo Fighters biggest songs since they formed the band in 1994.
The songs genre according to Wikipedia is Alternative rock/ post grunge.

In this video the main all the characters are just the same 3 people in costume (Fat suits, dressed as the different sex, the pilots of the plain and a few more). so there is a large element of comedy in this video.
The name of the song learn to fly is shown in the narrative of the video that is on a plain. in the video everyone one on the plain is drugged from coffee show at 0:20 seconds and 1:44 and 1:55.
Unlike quite a few music videos the hole band a featured in the video in most pop songs it will just be the front person who will get all the attention.

There are a good variation of shots in this video they do tend to use the rule of thirds a lot and frame the shots so that the actors have lots of looking space so that you can see the action. the looking space is normally given to the front man Dave Grohl even though the video is about the band they normally do focus on the front man. The editing hasn't had anything extravagant done to it but it has been done very well. In the scene where the plane staff is flying outside the cot pit is done very well, also the continuity of using the same actors as different charters is almost floor less.

There is a opening narrative at the start of the video that helps explain the hole story line. The performance element of this video graduates though out, it starts off as just a movie on a plain at 1:16 then the shots gradually get closer to the movie screen and eventually at 2:55 there are full shots of the performance on stage. On the performance shots the camera is constantly moving around this is partly to keep the performers in shot but it also creates atmosphere.
The video finally starts to close with the band members taking control of the plain because of the pilots and crew are high and they land safely but roughly. Then the narrative that was at the start finishes the movie.

Research - Joshua Radin

Joshua Radin is an american folk singer/ song writer who was born in Shaker Heights, Ohio witch explains the folk origins. His songs have been in many of Scrubs, Grey's Anatomy, Brothers and Sisters, American Idol and One Tree Hill. his songs have also appeared on over 75 films and television placements. Brand New Day is from the album Simple Times witch is his second studio album, it was released on the 9th September 2008 on iTunes.

What Josha Radin has done here in this video is to be ironic and sarcastic in the actions in the video. The lyrics are very happy as well as the chord patterns but the video shows him being robed, hit by a car and beaten up but with a funny ironic feel to it, so when he gets hit in the face with his guitar and falls off the chair the lyrics sing " you have to fall in order to mend". The relationship between narrative and performance is very strong with this video, Steve Archer in media magazine drew attention to the importance of this relationship. The aspects of his video that we would like to put into ours is the ironic feel and the way people act as if hes a ghost.

Some of the shots used in this video are very well composed and I think they really help emphasize the irony in the video and the funny aspects. shots like close ups, crane shots and panning shot.

Music video

We have decided that we are going to make our video a mix of narrative and a performance. It will involve a main character/ performer walking though a urban landscape while performing with a side performer with a instrument. The song we have chosen is "The Day I Died - Just Jack" this song has a good story line and has a lot of potential. Here is the songs current music video....

Just Jack - The Day I Died - Official Promo on MUZU.TV

The Day i Died is the 2nd single released by Just Just from his studio album All Night Cinema, it was released on the 17th August 2009. The song has been on various radio radio stations. Acording to wikipedia the genre Indie rock, pop, alternative hip hop, i would personally say it was just indie/ alternative. The lyrics give us a good opening for making our own video comic related video.

Jack Christopher Allsopp (Just Jack) was born 18 May 1975 and from Camden Town, London. He first came to fame with his single Stars in there Eyes in 2007 which reached number two on the UK. His two other well known singles are Embers and The Day I Died which both got in the top 20 in the UK charts. He grew up listening to breakdance, electro hip hop and house and at age of 15 started doing his own amateur DJing, so the genre of music he produces now is not exactly electro hip hop but in some of his songs you do get the electro feel mainly in Stars in There Eyes.

So we don't get court up in a copy right dispute, we have contacted Just Jack to ask if we can make a video on his song.

Introduction

We have chose to make our music video on the song "The Day I Died - Just Jack". We have picked this song because we both like it and there is alot to build on in the lyrics so we can get a good story line and hopefully a good video.

We have been looking at profectional music video's that are in the same genre as our chosen song. We have looked at "Band New Day - Joshua Radin" this video has a strong comical feel to it and the performance and naritive elements are mixed together and these are both elements that we would like to instill in our video. Another video we have analised is "My Hero - Foo Fighters" we looked and this video because we would like a similar narritive to this as
